THE LAND
Our ranch is built around growing diverse grasses and reaping the long-term soil health and biodiversity benefits grasses provide.
Our grasses are all polycultures that are self-sustaining and do not require artificial fertilizer.
We have restored native Tallgrass Prairie as part of our grazing mix, providing benefits for biodiversity and our ranch’s resilience. It was the ecotype that was here for millennia.
Cattle move across pasture in deliberate patterns, allowing grasses to recover, root systems to deepen, and soil biology to strengthen.
Our grass captures the energy of the sun and carbon from the atmosphere to provide cattle with their natural feedstock.
Healthy grass supports a healthy herd.
Ecology
The YU Ranch is located within Carolinian Canada, in the most biodiverse region in the country.
We manage our land as an ecosystem and ask our cattle to fit into that natural ecology.
Native grasses are restored.
Wetlands and natural habitat are improved.
Seven endangered species find a home here.

The Herd
Our cattle are authentic Texas Longhorns, formed through survival of the fittest and uniquely adapted to our conditions.
They are the most efficient cattle on the planet at converting grass to lean protein.
They graze naturally, calve unassisted, and enjoy their social structure within the herd under natural range conditions.
Growth happens at the pace the land allows, with the freedom to express themselves as cattle.
